Naming and Matching Activity
- Pick up two of the same weekly flyers from the grocery store and cut the pictures from one of them. Here’s what you can do with different ages of children.
1 year -Ask your child to name and point to the pictures in the ads.
2-3 years –Ask your child to match the pictures from the flyers. (Example-match the picture of a banana from one ad to the same picture in the other ad.)
4-5 years –Ask your child to match the pictures and to name the foods.
Learning to read begins when children hear words, name objects, and match pictures. Grocery ads are free and available every week. Some store flyers are colorful and look like little books. Children love them and can learn from them.
