When you donate to Drake University Head Start, you make it possible for us to expand our mission of serving children and families, extending our programming and services.
What We Offer
- Home-based services for children from birth to age five in Polk County
- Center-based programs for children ages two to five
- Full-day, full-year programming in Polk County through the Early Head Start Child Care Partnership Program
- Partnership with Des Moines County Public Schools (a delegate of the grant recipient) to provide Head Start Preschool programming
All program models are designed as school readiness initiatives, focusing on key developmental domains including social-emotional growth, cognitive development, language and literacy, mathematics, and both fine and gross motor skills. Comprehensive health, nutrition, and social services are provided to all enrolled children and families, with additional targeted supports delivered by Family Engagement Specialists and Mental Health Consultants. Family literacy services are integrated throughout all Head Start and Early Head Start programming. DUHS also maintains the capacity to serve children with disabilities, ensuring inclusive and individualized support.
At the heart of the program is the belief that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. DUHS is committed to empowering parents by providing opportunities, education, and resources that support them in fully embracing this role.
